Behavior + Agency

Designing for what people do - not simply what interfaces display.

Technology has always influenced behavior.
Intelligent systems make that relationship considerably more powerful - and more important to design deliberately.

At BjöndHealth, behavioral economics was central to a platform designed around personalized intervention and sustained behavior change. Complex journeys were decomposed into problems, goals, tasks, and barriers, allowing the experience to respond to individual circumstances rather than forcing everyone through the same path.

Years later, many of those questions resurfaced through a completely different domain: sports fandom.

GamePlan explored identity, goals, progression, streaks, mastery, social participation, and persistent fan journeys. More recent gamification work extends those mechanisms into agentic experiences, where an intelligent system can recognize circumstances, anticipate outcomes, suggest actions, communicate consequences, and respond immediately to a user’s decision.
